● Shanghai Beijing High Speed Bullet Train

Railway Stations: Shanghai Hongqiao / Shanghai Railway Station (上海虹桥/上海站) - Beijing South Railway Station (北京南站)

Distance: 1,318 km (819 miles)

Duration: about 4.5 hours ~ 6 hours

High speed bullet train between Shanghai and Beijing is one of the most popular high speed railway lines for western travelers for its quickness, cleanness and a cheaper price than taking a flight. Running on the Beijing-Shanghai high speed rail, there are more than 30 high speed G Trains departing from Shanghai to Beijing, running the 1,318 km at the average speed above 300 km/h. Most of the G trains running between Shanghai and Beijing will take a stop at Nanjing, Xuzhou and Jinan.

Shanghai to Beijing Fuxing Trains: The newest Fuxing Trains have been used between Beijing and Shanghai. If you want to experience the Fuxing Trains, you can take train G2, G4, G8, G10 and so many other Fuxing Trains to suit your schedule and experience its higher speed (350 km/h) and highly advanced technologies and facilities. The fastest Fuxing train G22 takes only 4 hour and 18 minutes.

Shanghai Hangzhou High Speed Bullet Train

Railway Stations: Shanghai Hongqiao / Shanghai South Railway Station (上海虹桥/上海南站) - Hangzhou East/ Hangzhou Railway Station (杭州东/杭州站)

Distance: 144 km (90 miles)

Duration: about 1 hour

If you want to travel from Shanghai to Paradise City Hangzhou and explore its beautiful West Lake and some cultural sites (like China National Silk Museum, Lingyin Temple, China Tea Museum, etc.), taking a high speed train is the perfect choice. There are over 130 high speed trains running from Shanghai to Hangzhou daily, most of which are G Trains. Frequently as every ten minutes (even shorter as five minutes) there is one high speed bullet train departing from Shanghai to Hangzhou. Taking the fast G Train, you may get to Hangzhou from Shanghai within 1 hour. The earliest train departs from Shanghai before 06:00 am and the last train departs at around 21:30. During your train journey, you get an opportunity to feast your eyes on the rural villages in eastern China.

Shanghai Suzhou High Speed Bullet Train

Railway Stations: Shanghai Hongqiao / Shanghai Railway Station (上海虹桥/上海站)- Suzhou / Suzhou North Railway Station (苏州/苏州北站)

Distance: 81 km (50 miles)

Duration: about 30 minutes

With a short distance of 81 km, Shanghai Suzhou High Speed Rail offers a quick transfer between international metropolis Shanghai and Garden City Suzhou. After a 2 or more days’ tour in Shanghai, taking a high speed train to Suzhou allows you to get a wonderful sight of the delicately-designed classical gardens which are listed as UNESCO World Cultural Sites. Totally, there are more than 220 daily high speed bullet trains running from Shanghai to Suzhou. From about 06:00 ~ 23:00 each day, you can easily catch one train to Suzhou from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station or Shanghai Railway Station in every 5 ~ 10 minutes. The fastest train cost only 21 minutes. A few trains will get to Suzhou Yunqu and Suzhou New Area Railway Station.

Shanghai Nanjing High Speed Bullet Train

Railway Stations: Shanghai Hongqiao / Shanghai Railway Station (上海虹桥/上海站) - Nanjing South / Nanjing Railway Station (南京南/南京站)

Distance: 299 km (185 miles)

Duration: about 1.5 ~ 2 hours

Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu Province, is connected with Shanghai through Shanghai-Nanjing Intercity High Speed Railway. Both Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station and Shanghai Railway Station provide high speed trains to Nanjing. There are more than 240 high speed bullet trains for your choice. The earliest train departs from Shanghai Railway Station before 06:00 am and arrives in Nanjing South Railway Station before 08:00 am. The last train departs from Shanghai Railway Station at about 11:00 pm and arrives in Nanjing Railway Station at nearly 02:00 of the next day. Usually, the high speed trains take about 1.5 to 2 hours. All Shanghai Beijing high speed trains take a stop in Nanjing, so you can catch a Fuxing train from Shanghai to Nanjing as well.

Shanghai Xian High Speed Bullet Train

Railway Stations: Shanghai Hongqiao / Shanghai Railway Station (上海虹桥/上海站) - Xian North Railway Station (西安北站)

Distance: 1,509 km (938 miles)

Duration: about 6 ~ 9 hours

It is a total length of 1,509 km from Shanghai to Xian. There are over 20 G Trains running between Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station and Xian North Railway Station. The first starting at around 06:00,and the last departing at 21:30. At the same time, there are 2 D Trains departing from Shanghai Railway Station to Xian North Railway Station each day, taking a longer duration of about 11 hours. The G and D Trains will all past Nanjing, Xuzhou and Zhengzhou on the way. The high speed bullet train journey between Shanghai and Xian takes more than half a day, so some travelers prefer to take a flight. If you are interested in a comfortable sightseeing train journey, you are suggested to take a G Train. If you want a overnight bullet train, you can choose a D Train.

Shanghai Huangshan High Speed Bullet Train

Railway Stations: Shanghai Hongqiao / Shanghai Railway Station (上海虹桥/上海站) - Huangshan North Railway Station (黄山北站)

Distance: 444 km (277 miles)

Duration: about 2.5 ~ 3.5 hours

It is popular to take a high speed train to Huangshan to admire the beauty of Huangshan Mountain and perfectly preserved Huizhou ancient villages like Hongcun and Xidi. At present, there are more than 15 pairs of high speed trains running between Shanghai and Huangshan. Most of them start from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station and all finally arrive at Huangshan North Railway Station. The high speed trip will only need 2.5 ~ 3.5 hours only. Huangshan North Railway Station is 11 km away from Huangshan City and 68 km away from the Yellow Mountain, so you can get to the downtown area and Yellow Mountain easily.

Shanghai Zhengzhou High Speed Bullet Train

Railway Stations: Shanghai Hongqiao / Shanghai Railway Station (上海虹桥/上海站) - Zhengzhou East / Zhengzhou Railway Station (郑州东/郑州站)

Distance: 986 km (613 miles)

Duration: about 4 ~ 6.5 hours

There are more than 40 high speed trains running from Shanghai to Zhengzhou daily, with stop in Nanjing. Taking a high speed G Train, visitors can reach Zhengzhou from Shanghai for only about 4 ~ 6.5 hours covering the railway of about 986 kilometers long. The earliest G-train starts at around 03:30 from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station and the last one leaves Shanghai at around 19:30, so you could choose one to suit your tour. The D Trains are overnight bullet trains with a train ride of 8.5 hours. Since some of the trains arrive at Zhengzhou East Station and some at Zhengzhou Station, you could check it when booking.

Shanghai Kunming High Speed Bullet Train

Railway Stations: Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station (上海虹桥站) - Kunming South Railway Station (昆明南站)

Distance: 2,252 km (1,400 miles)

Duration: about 11 ~ 12 hours

The high speed rail between Shanghai and Kunming, reaching 2,252 km long, is the longest high speed railway in the east-west direction. There are 4 daily high speed trains (all are G Trains) running from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station to Kunming South Railway Station, available during 07:30~11:30 am. The whole journey needs about 11~12 hours, you could choose the one train to best suit your tour including Shanghai and Kunming to enjoy their highlights with speed and comfort. It passes several tourist destinations, like Hangzhou, Changsha, Guiyang, etc. If you want a shorter high speed train journey to Kunming, you can make a layover tour in Guiyang or Kaili.
 

Shanghai Jiuhuashan High Speed Bullet Train

Railway Stations: Shanghai / Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station (上海/上海虹桥站) - Chizhou Railway Station (池州站)

Distance: 522 km (324 miles)

Duration: about 3.5 hours

Jiuhuashan (Mount Jiuhua), one of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains in China, is located in Qingyang County, Chizhou City. Since it is about 50 km to Chizhou Railway Station (about 1 hour’s driving), some travelers choose to take a high speed train to Chizhou first and then transfer to Mount Jiuhua. Offering more than 15 daily high speed trains to Chizhou, Shanghai is one of the best gateway cities to Chizhou. The earliest train departs at before 06:00 am and the last train departs at about 06:30 pm. The whole train trip needs about 3.5 hours. These trains also passes through some other tourist cities, including Suzhou, Nanjing, Wuxi, Wuhu, etc., so you can catch a high speed train from these cities to Chizhou as well.

More High Speed Bullet Trains from/to Shanghai

Except the above high speed train routes, there are also more popular high speed trains running from Shanghai to other great tourist cities of China. From Shanghai, you could take a fast high speed bullet train to Yichang (6.5~8 hours) for a Yangtze River Cruise, to Chengdu (11~13 hours) for a Giant Panda tour, to Wuhan (3.5~5 hours), Qingdao (6.5 hours), Xiamen (5.5~6.5 hours), Tianjin (5.5~6 hours), Guangzhou (7~8.5 hours), Shenzhen (11.5 hours), Nanchang (3~4 hours), etc.

And now, there are some Shanghai high speed rails are under construction, such as the Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou High Speed Railway. By that time, you could enjoy a fast and flexible high speed train travel from Shanghai to more surrounding areas.

Most Frequently-used High Speed Train Stations

There are 4 train stations used in Shanghai City and two of them mainly serve high speed trains to/from Shanghai, namely Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station and Shanghai Railway Station. Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station is located in No. 1500, Mingui Road, Minhang District (上海市闵行区申贵路1500号), about 25km to the Bund. Shanghai Railway Station is located in No. 303, Moling Road, Jing'an District (上海市静安区秣陵路303号).
