Based on the opened Kunming Dali High Speed Railway, the long-expected high speed bullet trains start to run between Kunming and Lijiang, which cuts down the train travel time from 9.5 hours to about 3 hours. So far, there are 6 pairs of bullet trains (D trains) shuttling between Kunming Railway Station in Kunming and Lijiang Railway Station in Lijiang every day. For travelers who want to take fast trains from Kunming to Lijiang, you can choose from 6 trains arranged from about 08:15am to 19:30pm. The first train is a direct train without any stop on the way, which departs in the morning with shortest travel time less than 3 hours. Two of the trains will pass by Chuxiong (楚雄) or Dali (大理) and stop about 2~3 station en route. Similarly, there 6 daily bullet trains running the returning trip between 08:30am to 19:30pm.

After visiting Kunming, the famous “Spring City”in Yunnan Province, it’s very fast and convenient to transfer to Dali to explore diverse minority architecture, culture and history by 2 hour’s high speed trains. Totally, there are over 35 couples of high speed trains running between Kunming and Dali. To get from Kunming to Dali, you can take bullet trains departing from 07:30am to 21:45pm, and also extend further trip to Lijiang. Most trains will have a short stopover in Chuxiong (楚雄), the well-known location that holds the grand Torch Festival in Yunnan, and Xiangyun (祥云) in Western Yunnan Province. Taking a Kunming high speed train to Guiyang needs only about 2 to 3 hours. Every day, there are about 40 G-trains departing from Kunming South Railway Station from about 7 in the morning to 9 in the evening. With much shorter travelling time than driving for over 7 hours, you are highly recommended to take the bullet train to savor the various folk custom and ethnic features in both Yunnan and Guizhou Provinces. There are 3 G-train and 5 D-trains operating from Kunming South Station to Guilin City. The G-trains and D-trains travel along totally different High Speed Rail. Usually, the D-trains start from Kunming and arrive at Guilin Railway Station, passing Shilin, Puzhehei, Nanning, etc., with a whole journey of about 7 hours 16 minutes - 8 hours 8 minutes. And the G-trains usually reach Guilin North Railway Station after about 4 hours 40 minutes – 4 hours 46 minutes, passing Anshun, Guiyang, etc. So taking the bullet train from Kunming is another best way to visit the highlights in Guilin, like Li River, Elephant Trunk Hill, Yangshuo, Longsheng Rice Terraces, etc.

Besides, if you go by driving, it would take about 65mins to Kunming Green Lake and Jingxing Bird and Flower Market, about 4 hours to the Dongchuan Red Land, and about 1 hour to the West Hill Scenic Area.

The most convenient way to go to Stone Forest from Kunming is to take a bullet train from Kunming South Railway Station. There are about 11 D-trains available from about 08:15-20:00 every day, and the duration is only about 20 minutes. Besides, if you drive there, it usually needs about 65mins to Stone Forest from that train station.
